Touch and Texture: Real silk feels smooth and cool on your skin. It’s soft and luxurious, while fake silk (polyester, nylon) may feel slippery or stiff.
Burn Test: Real silk burns like natural fibers, with a smell similar to burning hair and ash-like residue. Fake silk melts, emitting a plastic-like odor.
Shine and Luster: Silk naturally reflects light with a soft, subtle glow. Fake silk often has an artificial shine that looks flat or overly glossy.
Thread Count: Silk fibers are thinner, resulting in a higher thread count. A thicker, heavier fabric may indicate fake silk.
